CBAM Readiness: New resources available for CBAM verifiers
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU policy aimed at preventing carbon leakage by imposing a carbon price on imports of certain goods. To ensure effective implementation, CBAM verifiers—entities responsible for auditing and verifying the carbon content of imported goods—play a crucial role. Recently, new resources have been made available to support these verifiers in their tasks. These resources include updated guidelines, training materials, and technical tools designed to improve accuracy, consistency, and compliance in verification processes. Enhanced guidance helps verifiers better understand CBAM requirements, calculation methodologies, and reporting obligations. Additionally, the resources facilitate alignment with evolving regulatory standards and promote transparency and reliability in verifying carbon emissions embedded in imports. Overall, these developments aim to strengthen the CBAM framework’s effectiveness by equipping verifiers with the necessary knowledge and tools to perform their duties efficiently, thereby supporting the EU’s broader climate goals.
